Rules for 1/24 Nostalgia Can-Am class racing (version V2, 09-05-06)

1. Intent: The intention of this class is to provide a class of primarily scratch-built slot cars reflecting the spirit of the late-1960s racing era, with scale realism and low cost, to attract newcomers and experienced racers and builders.

2. Dimensional Specifications

a. Overall Width: 3.125” max (measured across chassis and front/rear wheels)
b. Rear Tire width: 0.800” maximum
c. Rear Tire diameter: 0.8125” (13/16”)minimum
d. Front Tire width: 0.25” (1/4”) minimum
e. Front Tire diameter: 0.75” (3/4”) minimum
f. Clearance: 0.050” minimum (measured under rear axle including gear) and 0.015” minimum (measured under front axle). Both clearances measured with car standing on a flat tech board on its wheels, without guide.
g. Weight: No minimum or maximum weight

3. Chassis construction:

a. Chassis type: Any personally-built or commercially available scratch built chassis conforming to these specifications and to the spirit of the intent statement is allowed.
b. Chassis Materials: Brass sheet, brass rod and tube, piano wire, steel pin tubing and steel guide tongues are allowed. Stamped or formed brass parts such as motor brackets and guide tongues are allowed. Stamped steel parts (other than guide tongues) and EDM or laser-cut parts of any material are not allowed.
c. Drive type: Inline drive only, with the motor shaft at 90 degrees to the rear axle.
d. Drive gears: Drive gears and ratios are free.
e. Chassis hinges: Drop arms are allowed on all chassis designs. Non-hinged chassis designs are allowed. Other than a drop arm, all hinged movements must be oriented in one direction on any chassis (i.e. either side pan hinges OR a plumber hinge, NOT BOTH). Centerline hinges (flexi hinges) are not allowed.
f. Front axle: A single front axle is required, carrying both front wheels. The axle may be fixed or in a tube. NO hinged front wheel movements are allowed (i.e. no “L” arms). Front wheels may rotate independently.
g. Guide: One guide flag (or pin) centered on the longitudinal axis of the chassis (i.e. no sideways “float” or offset) is allowed.
h. Bearings: Free.
i. Axle sizes: Free

4. Other Requirements:

a. Motor type: Unopened, unmodified FK-type motors only (Falcon, Slick 7, TSRF, etc)
b. Body style: Bodies must be originals or reproductions of pre-1970 Can-Am and Sports/GT bodies by Russkit, MAC, Lancer etc. No “flattened” or “aerodynamically improved” bodies allowed (i.e. no molded-in spoilers, wings etc that were not on the original full-size car). Front wheel arches must be cut out. Rear wheel arches may be left closed if the original full-size car ran with closed wheel arches. Bodies must be presentably painted and carry at least three racing numbers, one on each side, and one on the front.
c. Spoilers and air control: A single clear plastic spoiler may be added to the rear of the body only, extending no higher than 0.5” above the rear edge of the body and no wider than the outer edges of the body. Spoilers may not be painted or carry stickers. No side dams of any type are allowed. Front diaplanes are not allowed.
d. Interior: All bodies must carry a painted (at least two colors), three-dimensional interior comprising a driver (helmet, shoulders and arms) a steering wheel and a cockpit representation.
e. Protrusions: No part of the chassis, wheels, tires, guide, etc may be visible outside of, or through the body when viewed from directly above.
